March 2026 Tax Agenda: Tips, Appointments, and Deadlines

The Final Countdown to April

With the April deadline looming, March serves as the final staging ground for a smooth tax season. While the calendar contains fewer official due dates this month, the urgency to organize your documentation and communicate with your advisor is higher than ever.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For those in the service industry, accurate reporting is essential to avoid surprises. If you are an employee who received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10. You can use IRS Form 4070 or a signed statement containing your personal details, employer information, and the total tips received for the period.

Why is this deadline strict? Your employer needs to calculate and withhold the correct FICA and income taxes. If your regular wages are insufficient to cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will appear in box 8 of your W-2, requiring you to pay that tax directly when filing your annual return.

March 16: The "Soft" Deadline for Appointments

We are approximately one month away from the individual income tax filing deadline. If you have not yet secured a slot on our calendar, we strongly encourage you to reach out now before availability becomes scarce.

Client and accountant discussing tax documents

Do not wait for perfect documentation. A common mistake clients make is delaying their appointment because they are missing a single document. Please book the appointment anyway. We can process what you have, create a checklist for the missing items, and keep the process moving. It is much easier to forward one missing form later than to rush an entire return in April.

If you suspect you will need more time, it is still vital to connect with us. We should prepare a preliminary return to estimate your liability so you can pay the tax due—minimizing interest and penalties—even if we file an extension for the paperwork.

Standard Rules & Exceptions

Weekends & Holidays: As per standard IRS protocol, if a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is automatically pushed to the next business day.

Disaster Area Relief: Deadlines are often extended for taxpayers located in federally designated disaster areas. To verify if your region qualifies for automatic relief, please consult the official resources below:
